Sr Director & Program Team Leader

San Diego, CA

Erasca is a San Diego based biotechnology company focused on discovering and developing precision medicines for the benefit of patients with cancer. We are advancing multiple programs targeting biological drivers of cancer and are pursuing additional pipeline expansion opportunities through academic and biopharmaceutical collaborations. Our programs, currently focused on innovative discovery research, take novel approaches to shutting down certain oncogene drivers of solid tumor malignancies. The name “Erasca” has an important embedded meaning: it is a contraction of our audacious hope to “erase cancer” that drives our mission and everything that we do on behalf of patients with cancer.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the VP of Portfolio and Program Leadership, the Senior Director & Program Team Leader (PTL) will be responsible for leading strategic development and driving execution of key Erasca development programs.  The PTL will provide vision and leadership to discovery and development stage programs and drive strategic and operational decisions. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Program Leader Responsibilities 

  • Serve as the Program Leader for one or more development programs 
  • Lead cross-functional program teams focused on the development of novel therapeutics to move them forward efficiently and effectively in development, with a high degree of urgency, so they can become available to patients as soon as possible  
  • Partner with stakeholders to develop project vision, strategy, product evaluation, product scope, project milestones, risk assessment, and management strategies, as well as project investment requirements 
  • Oversee strategy for helping to advance discovery programs into clinical development 
  • Oversee clinical program strategy, including helping establish, refine, and adjust the target product profile and clinical development plan based on internal data and the external competitive landscape 
  • Set program goals and timelines 
  • Assist with budgeting and resource allocation across disciplines and programs 
  • Lead program team and relevant sub-team meetings 
  • Oversee competitive landscape assessment and competitive positioning 
  • Lead technology transfer activities from licensing partners, as applicable 

Program Management Responsibilities 

  • Serve as the program manager for development and potentially discovery programs 
  • Build and Maintain program timelines and interdependencies 
  • Meet with interdisciplinary team members to prepare team meetings, capture meeting minutes, and assign key action items with single points of accountability 
  • Maintain risk management plan for Erasca discovery and clinical development programs 

Perform all duties in keeping with the Company’s core values, policies, and all applicable regulations. 

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry, with experience in both small and large companies a plus 
  • Undergraduate degree required, postgraduate degree highly preferred, e.g. PhD, PharmD, MD, and/or MBA 
  • Deep understanding of clinical drug development in oncology therapeutics required, understanding of the drug discovery process highly preferred 
  • Demonstrated record of accomplishment in a dynamic environment through an ability to prioritize, be proactive, and make sound decisions in the face of uncertainty 
  • Proven experience leading inter-disciplinary teams and collaborating across functions and with multiple stakeholders 
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills with ability to concisely and objectively present complex scientific and business information and communicate articulately to a wide variety of audiences 
  • Excellent critical, strategic, and analytical thinking skills 
  • Persistent and results driven, with a bias for action and drive to move the organization forward 
  • Highly collaborative and a strong team player 
  • Solid capabilities with GANTT chart modeling, Excel, and financial forecasting tools required, experience with Asana a plus  
  • Compassion and a strong sense of urgency to fulfill Erasca’s mission 
  • Must be able to work independently and thrive in an entrepreneurial, fast paced and dynamic work environment
